Job Description:
JOB CHARACTERISTICS - Under general supervision, performs responsible clerical work involving the preparation, maintenance and issuance of building permits in the City of Eustis. The employee works with independence within the scope of established rules, regulations and procedures. EXAMPLES OF MACHINES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED - General office and computer equipment SUPERVISION RECEIVED - Sr. Permit Clerk, Building Inspector, Building Official ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS – • Receives and maintains all licensing certification and worker’s compensation information for all contractors requesting building permits; • Determines when a permit is required, the requirements for applying for each type of permit and applicable fees; • Locates properties by legal description on maps and blueprints; • Prepares and issues building permits; • Collects all permitting fees, impact fees and other fees pertaining to the Building, Zoning and Development Services offices; • Greets and assists the general public; • Answers the phone and takes messages and provides information, as required; • Files alphabetically and numerically. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS – • Assists in the preparation for and aftermath of a major emergency such as a hurricane or other storm or disaster, as needed. • Performs other related duties as required. Salary Range – $12.13 - $17.61/hr ($25,226.92 - $36,635.16/yr); EXCELLENT benefits (Note: Benefit information is posted on city website at www.eustis.org, or call Human Resources at 352-483-5472). Applicants should expect a starting salary of $25,226.92/yr. Only applicants with the most job-related qualifications will be selected for interview and further consideration. Additional consideration may be given to applicants with more extensive education, training, or experience. Final candidates will be subject to skills testing, including spelling, math, grammar, Microsoft Word 2013, Microsoft Excel 2013, customer service, and typing (minimum 45 CWPM). Final candidates may be required to pass a drug test and are offered a conditional offer of employment contingent upon satisfactory results of a thorough background check including criminal history, driver’s license check, & medical exam (if applicable). Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Abilities and Skills - Knowledge of business English, punctuation, mathematics and spelling; knowledge of modern office practices and procedures Ability to work well with others and assist the public cooperatively and courteously; ability to maintain files and records; ability to express oneself clearly in verbal and written form; ability to make minor decisions in accordance with departmental policy; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to remain at a city work shelter, before, during and after a hurricane or other storm or disaster, if asked. Skill in the operation of basic office equipment, including good computer skills Working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma or recognized equivalent, including courses in typing and office procedures; one year additional training or coursework in secretarial or office skills, business or related field preferred; three (3) years experience in a responsible secretarial or clerical position, including at least one (1) year permitting experience. Other related experience may be considered.

Physical Demands:
This is primarily sedentary work. Requires sitting for long periods of time; bending and reaching; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight, hearing and speech.
