Job Description:
The City is seeking a trustworthy, responsible individual who has outstanding inter-personal skills and who is willing to go the extra mile to provide exceptional customer service. Applicants must have a willingness to work in a team-oriented work environment and have excellent multi-tasking and problem solving skills. Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus. This is very responsible work involving the proactive and reactive enforcement of city codes and ordinances. Employee works somewhat independently with considerable use of technical judgment and discretion and within established rules, regulations, policies and procedures. EXAMPLES OF MACHINES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Copy machine; camera; city vehicle; cartographic tools; general office and computer equipment SUPERVISION RECEIVED – Code Enforcement Supervisor ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Duties may include some or all of the following job functions: • Performs systematic site inspections of properties within the city for compliance with established city codes; • Identifies compliance problems and issues deficiency write-ups; • Meets with violators and general public to explain and interpret city codes and advises violator of expected time frame to correct the infraction; • Provides compliance assistance; • Performs site re-inspections and determines compliance; • Issues code violation notices, when necessary; • Prepares and maintains code enforcement records and reports; • Collects and analyzes data for departmental reports; • Provides testimony to code board or special magistrate, when necessary; • Removes illegal and off site advertising signs from road right-of-way, trees and utility poles; • Performs other related duties as required OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS – • Assists the City in the preparation for and aftermath of a major emergency such as a hurricane or other storm or disaster, as needed Note: All City employees are required to assist the City in the preparation for and aftermath of a major emergency such as a hurricane or other disaster. If asked, this person would be required to stay at a city work shelter during such emergency in order to be readily available afterwards. Salary Range – $13.94 - $20.27/HR; excellent benefits. REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Abilities and Skills - Knowledge of charters, ordinances, statutes and pertinent rules and regulations regarding code enforcement; knowledge of generally accepted home building practices and the requirements of applicable building and housing codes. Significant ability to meet and work with the public and to explain and enforce regulations firmly and tactfully; ability to read and interpret code regulations; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely in verbal and written form; ability to research and write reports; ability to drive a vehicle; ability to remain at a city work shelter, before, during and after a hurricane or other storm or disaster, if asked. Working Hours - Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Minimum Qualifications – High School diploma (or equivalent) supplemented by two (2) years’ experience in code enforcement, planning or zoning, or three (3) years’ experience in the building trades required. A combination of training and experience may be considered. Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.

Physical Demands:
This is primarily sedentary work with some periods of light physical effort. Requires walking and standing for moderate periods of time; frequent sitting; bending, reaching and stooping; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight, hearing and speech; regular driving of vehicle.
